I am a 76 years old retiree who used to be a teacher. I have been through a lot of hardship in my life; my father died before I was born and my mother, made a decision to never get married again when she was 22 years old. In the 1930s, my mother set up an altar at home to enshrine the Guan Yin Bodhisattva and also made a vow that she would practice Buddhism, abstain from meat and cultivate herself for the rest of her life. When I was a child, my mother’s sincerity towards Buddhism greatly influenced me and because of that, I started to recite short scriptures such as the Heart Sutra at a young age. However, after I started school, I did not recite scriptures or practice Buddhism and I would like to deeply repent for that. After retiring, an unfortunate event happened to my family that shattered my hope of having a peaceful retirement – my partner got stomach cancer. Besides taking him to the hospital for formal treatments, I also visited a fortune teller several times and prayed to the Guan Yin Bodhisattva for her blessing. My partner thankfully survived. When he was 61 years old, he underwent an operation and now, he is 83 years old and is very happy and healthy. I feel very grateful towards the Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
Although I had a firm belief in Buddhism, I did not start practicing it again until 2013. I started practicing after my daughter introduced the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door to me and gave me a few of Master Lu’s books and asked me to listen to Master Lu’s radio program recordings. Since then, I have continued to recite Buddhist scriptures, made a vow be a vegetarian on the 1st and 15th day of each lunar month and have started to perform life liberation. I am very dedicated in reciting scriptures and Little Houses. After practicing Buddhism for over a year now, I have gained so much knowledge and have truly experienced the great mercifulness of the Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu. I would like to share my experiences with everyone.
1) Since I started practicing Buddhism, I have experienced a peaceful mind and have gotten along well with my neighbours. I have been able to forgive those whom I have hated for a very long time. In the past, I always thought my son-in-law and my daughter-in-law did not show any filial piety toward us. But, after practicing Buddhism, I have learnt to put myself in other people’s shoes and as a result, I have changed my tone and attitude when I speak to them. As a Buddhist, everyone should broaden their heart and show kindness towards others.
2) My health has improved and many of my chronic illnesses have been cured. Since I was born, my body has been very weak and as I have got older, I have frequently been sick. When I was 30 years old, I experienced anxiety attacks, which greatly affected my work and my life. However, as of now, I barely experience any outbreaks.
Furthermore, four years ago, I suffered from cerebrovascular disease, which made me feel dizzy, and weak. I was diagnosed with encephalomyelitis and therefore, had to stay in hospital for over a month during the spring. So far this year, I have not experienced any further symptoms and I find that it has been such an amazing miracle!
3) For more than ten years, I have had lumbar disc protrusion and osteoporosis. As time went by, my conditions got worse. During the ten months from the end of 2013 to August 2014, I felt pain in my waist and legs, to the point where it was very difficult for me to sit, stand and walk. Even though I visited several doctors, the symptoms were still evident. As a result, my daughter suggested to me to recite scriptures and to offer Little Houses to my karmic creditors. At the time, even though my body was in so much pain, I was very diligent in reciting scriptures so I could maintain a peaceful mind. I cannot imagine how I would have managed the pain if I did not practice the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. Maybe the Guan Yin Bodhisattva was moved by my diligence.
In August 2014, someone introduced me to a specialist hospital. On the day of my surgery, some specialists from Korea were invited to the hospital to promote a new technology and I was lucky enough to be selected for a free surgery. At the beginning I was very nervous, but after I started to recite the Great Compassion Mantra, I calmed down. After I was discharged from the hospital, I gradually became better and could sit and stand. However, the other two patients who underwent the same surgery as me did not experience the same results even though they were both younger than me. As a result, both of the patients underwent further surgeries. I got much better regardless of my weak body and as of December 2014, I have not felt any pain! I am now living a normal life!
Full prostration to the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva and to the merciful Master Lu!
