Chinese Chan Culture and Guan Yin Citta

Interview with Master Jun Hong Lu, President of 2OR Australia Oriental Radio

4. What is Mercy and Compassion?

The essence of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is mercy and compassion.

Master Jun Hong Lu stated, “What is to have mercy for others even if they are not connected to you, and to have compassion for others as if you are a single entity? To have mercy is when you see others having difficulties, and you have a desire from your heart to help them – this is mercy. To have compassion is when you see others are in trouble, and you have empathy, as if their pain is yours. A person without the right mindset would not be able to keep many things, including wealth and health. The main purpose of practising Guan Yin Citta is to help people to improve the way they think, so they do not escalate conflicts. Many political ideals of Chairman Mao originated from Buddhism. You will not possess the things that you wish for if you do not have the internal qualities, even though you may be externally rich in resources.”

“Practising Guan Yin Citta helps us to cultivate our minds. The way we think will evolve if our mind is at peace. When we have disagreements, we refrain ourselves from getting into conflicts with others. We can resolve the issues in a calm manner by viewing the issues from a higher perspective. From a Buddhist perspective, viewing of these issues surpasses the conventions of everyday life, and many conflicts and difficulties would be easily resolved.”

Master Jun Hong Lu revealed that Guan Yin Citta gradually evolved over the past three years through the weekly radio program, “The Art of Applying Comprehensive Metaphysics”. This is an all-encompassing radio program, which covers Feng-Shui concepts, Totem Enquiries, Buddhism explained in plain terms, and more. This has attracted many listeners. Master Jun Hong Lu propagates the concepts and the practice of Buddhism through the compassion and inspirations from Guan Yin Bodhisattva. With the radio station as a medium, this has evolved into the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door of today.

According to Master Jun Hong Lu, propagating Buddhist teachings is not only the responsibility of venerables. As a Buddhist, he felt that he should incorporate Confucism within Buddhism, as well as teaching people the ideals of Confucism, which are based on the proper beliefs of Buddhism.

In addition, Master Jun Hong Lu loves his country of origin. Since July 2009, Master Jun Hong Lu’s radio station has signed an agreement with China National Radio (CNR) to provide the Chinese community in Sydney with the opportunity to listen to the latest CNR programs. This has brought the voice of China to Australia. In 2009, the committee for the Global Chinese Broadcasting Award honoured 2OR with the “Special Rocket Award”. Master Jun Hong Lu is visiting Germany this time to hold a Dharma function in response to the invitation of his disciples living in Germany. As of today, Master Jun Hong Lu’s website has over 9 million visitors, and there are over 3 million people following the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door.
