(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

I learned it in the dream that it is likely to be reborn as a turtle if one strives for recognition and wealth

Caller:  Dear Master Lu, I would like to share what I dreamt about with you.  On 16th September, I visited a fellow Buddhist friend at his home.  He bought a turtle from a street stall and intended to release it in a deep mountain. During the night, he prayed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva to give him guidance through dreams on the appropriate places to release the turtle, as it is prohibited to do so in the river or in the sea. However, he did not have any dream on the day.

On the night after we released the turtle, he had a dream. In the dream, the turtle was transformed into a man. The man explained why and how he was reborn as a turtle. He said it could be that he had always been competing with others for fame or benefit.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s correct.

Caller:  And he said he had been doing spiritual practice for four to five hundred years.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  A turtle that had been doing spiritual practice for four to five hundred years is not considered as a long-lived one.  There are turtles which have been doing it for thousands of years.

Caller:  He said it was because of his fighting over recognition and wealth that he was reborn as……He was probably a Chinese in previous lives. Initially, the turtle was brought to a restaurant for sale. However, the cook dare not kill it. When they saw its tears streaming down its face, they took it out and it was eventually bought by a fellow Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door practitioner.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Oh dear, tears rolled down its face.

Caller:  Yes, indeed.  Before I had the dream, which coincided with the period when you had Dharma talks in Taiwan, I dreamt of you very often.  I dreamt of a turtle too. In the dream, I hid it and just held it in my arms. Next, I ran into a Bodhisattva and he gave us guidance on where to release the turtle. It could be for this reason, we encountered this turtle, and knew where to release it. Everything seemed to have been planned.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes.

Caller:  I used to dream of Master showing me ancient China, when it was ruled by emperors.  There were many people in the imperial palace. When I looked at a pond, all the people were turned into turtles. Many turtles.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Oh dear.

Caller: What does the dream mean?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That is simple.  In the past, many people in the imperial palace were all vying for recognition and wealth. In the end, all of them were reincarnated as turtles.

Caller: Is this related to the turtle that we released?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes. The turtle could be one of those from the imperial palace. Therefore, a person should not succumb to greed and fight over recognition and wealth.

Caller:  That is true.  This is the reason why I am calling. I want to let everyone know about this. We should never quarrel or fight with others over recognition and wealth. We have to eliminate all desires, pray for world peace and get rid of the greed, resentment and ignorance within us.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That is true. Therefore, Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is really wonderful. If everyone starts practising Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, there would not be struggles and fights, and everyone will be able to work and live in peace.  Wouldn’t that be nice?

Caller:  That is right.  Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is truly wonderful!
