How My Husband Miraculously Recovers from Brain Damage –Personal Sharing from Singapore Dharma Function 2017 (2)
Gratitude to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva,
Gratitude to Dharma Protectors, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas,
Gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu,
Gratitude to our fellow practitioners, who have helped me selflessly over the past two years.
I’m Du Huili from Beijing my husband and I have been married for more than 10 years. We have three lovely children. On 5th Nov 2014, my family had a bolt from the blue my husband had a fall in the washroom when he was found, he was twitching, with blood gushing out from the 7 orifices of his body. He was rushed to the Beijing Military Hospital. He was examined by several specialists. His injuries were serious.
On 5th Nov 2017, On the same night, the specialists performed the first craniotomy.
On 7th Nov 2017, there was a pathological change on the other side of his brain so he underwent a second surgery.
On 8th Nov 2017, he ceased to have spontaneous respiration.
On 9th Nov 2017, he underwent a third surgery. His trachea was cut open with tubes inserted all over his body. He has to be on a drip round-the-clock. His brain showed nine types of symptoms. Brain damage with fracture in the right of his skull, hyperaemia in the left brain, hyperaemia in the retina, hyperaemia in the left temporal area, bleeding in the ears and the nose fractures in the skull. He was actually brain dead. The doctors couldn’t believe that a fall could cause such severe injuries.
Holding the CT scan result. He asked me if I knew what brain damage was? The brain was all smashed up. Like someone who had been hurled to the ground. The brain suffered a concussion like a house ruined by an earthquake. It’s all smashed up. Brain damage could ruin a person. On hearing this I was so terrified that I passed out.
On Nov 11, my husband suddenly had anemia.
On Nov 20, there was haemorrhage in the stomach. From Nov 15 to 22, he had been receiving blood transfusions. We spent more than 200,000 RMB in less than 20 days. Pus discharged from his mouth and nostrils. His eyeballs were like those of a dead person. It was so horrifying!
In my moment of utter despair, I got to know about Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. Fellow practitioners from different parts of China kept ringing me up and offering help. Everyone was concerned about his condition. I immediately made a vow before Guan Yin Bodhisattva to release 5000 fish for him, to recite 1000 Little Houses and share the experience anytime anywhere, after my husband had recovered.
On December 1, my husband was given a blood transfusion again.
On Dec 4, there was bleeding in his stomach again.
On 8 December 2017, the pupils of his eyes showed no response. The doctors had exhausted all medical equipment and medication available. His hematopoietic function was totally lost and his life was at stake. Neither of my parents-in-law were willing to recite Buddhist scriptures. I was anxious I immediately released 1500 fish I realised it was no use making a last-minute frantic effort as I didn’t have enough merits and virtues to cope with such a calamity.
The doctor allowed him to be discharged saying that there was no way he could be saved. He would probably wake up in a year or remain in a vegetative state. He said to me, “If you spend all your money but fail to save him, How are you going to raise your children and support your aged parents?”
Everyone gave up, I knelt down crying desperately; I refused to quit. I have faith in Guan Yin Bodhisattva, I believed she would never abandon me. I believed there would be a turning-point if I offered more Little Houses and released more fish. Guan Yin Bodhisattva heard my pleas for help. Many friends recited the Great Compassion Mantra for him and offered Little Houses. Classmates and friends all came to offer help. All the staff at my company donated their three months’ salaries to finance my husband’s treatment. Everyone cared for him
I released another 1500 fish for him. Three days later on 10 December, his condition stabilized and all the machines connected to his body were removed. He was miraculously brought back to life in three days. Everyone’s compassion and firm commitment must have touched the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. We will be able to survive any setbacks as long as we persist my stubborn mother-in-law finally rang me up and asked me to set up a Buddhist altar for her. Besides taking care of my husband, I began handing out materials to introduce Buddhism to others. Not only did I want to save my husband but I also vowed to grab every chance to spread words of Buddhism.
About four months later, my husband finally awoke. The brain injury caused him to have fluid retention in the brain incontinence and memory loss. His intelligence suffered and he became speech-impaired. He suffered atrophy in his cerebellum. He was paralysed and his limbs were stiff. Another surgery was needed/ The doctor said the fluid in the brain would not disappear by itself. But how do I raise the money for the medical bills?
I decided not to proceed with the surgery. I believed the Three Golden Buddhist Practices would create another miracle! I vowed to release 10,000 fish for him offer 800 Little Houses and introduce Buddhism to more people. He also vowed to be a vegetarian and began to learn to recite the Great Compassion Mantra.
On 28 April, the medical examination classmates and friends all came to offer help Buddhist friends in Beijing posted several hundreds of Little Houses to me what was even more touching was that on the morning of 11 May my husband dreamt about Master Lu drawing out the fluid with a tube.
In June, with the help of fellow practitioners I became a disciple of Master Lu at the Public Talk in Hong Kong. I knelt down in Guan Yin Hall reciting 88-Buddha Great Repentance for my husband. On my return to Beijing, my husband, who was confined to a wheelchair walked up to me with a smile on his face. He is able to walk now!
Now he ventures out with me to release fish and distribute Buddhist books to others. On 1st July 2016, after attending the Public Talk in Hong Kong, unexpectedly my husband was granted a subsistence allowance of over 8000 RMB monthly. Guan Yin Bodhisattva wants me to spread Buddhism with peace of mind. I don’t have to worry about our livelihood now
We moved into our new home. My 12-year-old daughter also became Master Lu’s disciple. My father-in-law began reciting Buddhist scriptures and reading Master Lu’s books. My mother-in-law listens to recitations of Buddhist sutras and mantras every day. My three children started practising Buddhism together. We are all immersed in Dharma bliss. My father also set up an altar and started reciting Buddhist scriptures. My elder sister has started reciting Little Houses and applied to become Master Lu’s disciple. My husband, who used to be illiterate now recites Buddhist scriptures incessantly and listens to Master Lu’s programs. He can recite three to six Little Houses each day. He has finished reading four of Master Lu’s books.
On his return from the Public Talk in Malaysia, he can do the cooking now and he is taking care of me instead several patients who were in the similar condition as my husband had already passed away. No words can describe how grief-stricken their family members were I used to suffer from severe depression and always thought of committing suicide. While I was busy introducing Buddhism to others, I got out of depression unknowingly. Without Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door perhaps my husband would have been in a vegetative state. I might be living a very difficult life and unable to see to the basic needs of my family.
As long as we have strong faith and practise earnestly. We will create miracles I will be more diligent in my practice endure all hardship so as not to let my Master down. That’s all for me to share today. If I have said anything inappropriate, may all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas forgive me. Once again, I wish to extend my gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Gratitude to Master Lu. Thank you, everyone
